A mild brain injury can become a major career killer

On Behalf of | Aug 24, 2018 | Personal Injury

Many injuries can take you out of the game when it comes to your work, but some are much more difficult to understand or even recognize than others. This is especially true of mild traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). A mild TBI can lead to many misunderstandings and conflicts in the victim’s personal and professional life, and if the victim and those around them do not realize changes in the victim’s behavior are resulting from a brain injury, the outcomes are often disastrous.

When a worker suffers a mild TBI, they may experience many symptoms, including

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Difficulty completing familiar tasks
  • Aggressive outbursts of frustration
  • Misunderstanding conversations
  • Difficulty reading and writing clearly

These are only some of the issues a victim may experience after a mild TBI. It is usually wise for the victim to have their doctor give them a full medical examination to identify and diagnose the injury. This creates professional documentation that the victim has a real injury, making it easier to help the victim’s co-workers and community understand that the victim is not suddenly unreliable or difficult because of their own choices, but rather because of a very serious medical problem.

If you recently received a blow to the head, make sure that you seek out the care that you need as soon as you can. Once you have a clear diagnosis, you may need to take legal action to protect your rights, such as a personal injury claim to cover your medical expenses and other losses like lost income and suffering. Be sure to use good legal resources and guidance to build a strong strategy to protect yourself in this difficult season while you recover from your injury and work back to a normal, familiar way of life.
