Too Close to Home – Wrongful Death in the Form of a Tulsa Car Accident

No one expects to die in a car accident. But, it happens every day. On July 28, 2014, police set out to investigate an accident right here in Tulsa that killed an OU student and injured five other students. According to the news report, the police believed that the driver of the other car that slammed into the SUV carrying the six students may have been drinking on that fatal night. Taylor Witcher, the student who lost her life in the accident, died from the injuries that she sustained in the unnecessary and horrible car accident.

Wrongful Death Claims If it is determined that the negligence of the other driver was what led to this terrible accident, then the parents of the deceased could pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the liable party. To be sure, a wrongful death claim requires that another party acted negligently, and said negligence led to a death; furthermore, this claim can help survivors recover compensation for myriad damages. A Beloved Student Not that one life is more special than another, but Taylor Witcher was definitely a beloved young lady of her community – her sorority called her a “ray of sunshine to everyone she met.” A prayer vigil was held on the south oval of the OU campus, wherein students prayed for Taylor Witcher’s family. “She was a believer and you know for her sorority sisters and her friends to come out here and be a part of this was extremely special. But just lift up her family in this moment, lift up all her friends. Just couldn’t imagine going through that,” said Knight. Taylor Witcher’s sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, thanked people for their prayers and thoughts by sending out tweets.
