What Criteria Must Be Met To Obtain Social Security Disability in Oklahoma?

On Behalf of | Jul 15, 2014 | Uncategorized

Oklahomans who are interested in pursing federal Social Security Disability benefits must go through Oklahoma’s own unique system of application and delivery. Here’s how it works.

The Application – The Disability Determination Division (DDD)

Under the Department of Rehabilitative Services in Oklahoma is the Disability Determination Division (DDD). This is the office that would be in charge of processing your initial application for SSI disability or Social Security benefits.

Technical & Medical Requirements

If your application shows that you meet the work requirement and that your income is within the limit (technical requirements), the DDD’s Oklahoma City office will then take a look at it. The DDD is primarily interested in seeing if you meet the medical requirements:

  • Are you disabled?
  • Are you out of work based on your medical record?

If the DDD agrees that you are indeed disabled and unable to work because of your injury or disability, your application will be approved. But what do we do if it’s denied? Well, that’s where the appeal comes in.

The Appeal – The Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR)

Your appeal will go through one of three locations of The Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR). ODAR will process and handle your appeal, and you will need to come to one of their three offices for your hearing.
