Jury Scam - Identity Theft Alert

Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. Fall for it and your identity could be stolen.

In this con, someone calls claiming to work for the local court and claims you have failed to report for jury duty. They tell you that a warrant has been issued for your arrest. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, they ask for your Social Security number, birth date, and sometimes even for credit card numbers and other private information - exactly what the scammer needs to commit identity theft.

This scam is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try and bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system.

In reality, court workers will never call you to ask for social security numbers and other private information. In fact, most courts follow up via mail and rarely, if ever, call AWOL jurors. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, contact Frasier Law today at 918-779-3658.
