Business Cannot Prohibit Legal Weapons in Locked Autos

Workers cannot be prohibited from legally transporting a weapon in their vehicle onto an employer's property.

It is legal in Oklahoma to transport an unloaded weapon, like an unloaded hunting rifle or shotgun, in an automobile, if the weapon is locked in a car's trunk or glove box, even while the vehicle is on an employer's property.

The current law (Title 21, Section 1289.7a) reads:

"No person, property owner, tenant, employer, or business entity shall maintain, establish, or enforce any policy or rule that has the effect of prohibiting any person, except a convicted felon, from transporting and storing firearms or ammunition in a locked motor vehicle, or from transporting and storing firearms or ammunition locked in or locked to a motor vehicle on any property set aside for any motor vehicle."

An important exception to this current law is property owned by the federal government. A second is that weapons cannot be taken on school property.
