Oklahoma believes insurance money should be protected from creditors. As the insured or beneficiary of the insured, this belief entitles you to exemptions when you receive insurance money.
Oklahoma Statutes, Title 36, Section 3631.1 provides that, not only are life, accident, and disability policies exempt from execution in the hands of the insurance company, but also as the money is paid out to the beneficiary.
Thus, a creditor cannot garnish your bank account or take any money that comes from a long-term disability policy or life insurance policy and so forth.
