An Oklahoma physician was killed recently when a metal box flew off a truck and into her car.

The 31-year-old doctor was traveling on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike, four miles west of Newcastle, Oklahoma, just after 6 a.m. when the accident occurred.

The incident started when an eastbound flatbed truck tried to make a U-turn. In doing so, it was hit by a BMW that also was traveling east. The impact of the crash dislodged the metal box, which flew into the Lexus being driven by the doctor, who was headed west.

The doctor was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The driver of the flatbed truck, 49, was taken to OU Medical Hospital and was treated for injuries to his head and leg. His passenger, also 49, was hospitalized in the same location and was listed in serious condition with head injuries.

The BMW driver, 42, was treated and released for injuries.

The roadway was closed for four hours, according to the highway patrol. Authorities did not immediately announce the results of their investigation or whether any charges would be filed in the case.

The doctor was an obstetrician/gynecologist at a hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma, and commuted on the turnpike each day.

Administrators at the hospital released a statement that called her “a valued member of our team” and commented on the bonds she had developed in the hospital community.

“We know she meant a great deal to many of her patients,” the statement read. “Kindness and compassion were always shown in her practice, and it was obvious that she truly loved her profession. … She made a wonderful and positive impact on our staff, patients and the community.”

This was a tragic accident that cut a young life short. Something like this could happen to one of your loved ones out on the road. Oklahoma attorneys experienced in personal injury cases can offer assistance to grieving families like this doctor’s.
