What is different about an accident caused by a large truck?

Most people are, unfortunately, familiar with the sight of car accidents on the side of the roads in Oklahoma. After all, motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of injuries and deaths in America. However, an accident that is caused by a large truck can be a devastating scene. What is different about these types of accidents?

Well, for starters, the size of a large truck, such as a semi-truck, can mean that any collision involving such a vehicle can result in severe damage to other vehicles, as well as catastrophic injuries to the people involved and, in all likelihood, fatalities. Many accidents involving large trucks are not mere “fender benders.”

The causes of truck accidents can be different from other types of motor vehicle accidents too. For example, truck drivers require special training and a specialized driver’s license in order to safely operate large trucks. If they have not received proper training or licensing, truck drivers may not understand the vehicles they are operating and, as a result, may cause truck accidents. Or, some trucks are simply overloaded or improperly loaded. This can cause problems with controlling the vehicle, which, again, could cause a severe accident.

When Oklahoma residents are involved in a truck accident, they may just feel lucky to be alive. However, there are legal options that may need to be considered. Injured victims may be able to pursue a personal injury claim against the truck driver who caused the accident, as well as the company that employed the driver.
