2 hazards retail workers face

Retail workers have to deal with a lot of challenges while they’re working. While many people think of these jobs as being rather safe, there are some very specific hazards that workers in the retail industry can face.

Some of the hazards that retail workers might face on a shift depend on the type of goods the store sells and what events are going on. Regardless, it’s up to the employers to ensure they take appropriate steps to protect the workers. These two hazards are some of the specific ones that these hard-working men and women may face.

1. Falling merchandise

One of the primary hazards that a retail worker can face is falling merchandise. This often occurs when heavy or bulky items are placed on the upper shelves, which also comes with a risk of the shelving unit falling.

2. Trips or slips

Falling because of tripping or slipping is another hazard. This can occur because of liquids being spilled on the floor or items being strewn on the floor. It’s critical for protocols to be in place to address these safety hazards as soon as they happen.

Retail workers who suffer an injury at work might need urgent medical care, which should be paid for by workers’ compensation. There may be other benefits that the worker is also due, but they may have to fight for them. Because this can be a lengthy and complex process, they should seek the assistance of someone familiar with these matters.
