Explosion and oil rig fire in Oklahoma kills 2, injures 3

On Dec. 19 at approximately 1 a.m., an oil rig exploded and burst into flames, according to the state Fire Marshal's Office chief of operations. The oil rig is located around 2 miles west of Coalgate in southeastern Oklahoma and is about 100 miles southeast of Oklahoma City. Two workers were killed in the explosion, and three others suffered injuries.

Employees injured by work explosion

Two employees in Oklahoma were injured by a workplace explosion that occurred on Nov. 20. The accident happened at around 3:20 p.m. at the DCP straight compressor station located at County Rd. 7 and mile 32N by Guymon. One of the workers on-site told emergency response crews that four employees were at the location when the building housing the drying operations exploded without notice. Two of the employees inside the building were able to escape through an exit when the eruption began.

Examining workplace safety in the steel mill industry

Although the risks in the steel mill industry may not be new, a recent investigation by officials for the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration suggests that more safety rules or enforcement measures may be warranted.
